signaling gateway home

The UCSD Signaling Gateway Molecule Pages is a database providing essential information on the thousands of proteins involved in cell signaling. This database combines expert authored reviews with curated, highly-structured data (e.g. protein interactions) and automatic annotation from publicly available data sources (e.g. UniProt and Genbank). The information and data presented here are freely available to all users. The Signaling Gateway is hosted by the San Diego Supercomputer Center at the University of California, San Diego, and is funded by NIH/NIGMS Grant 1 R01 GM078005-01.

Shankar Subramaniam Principal Investigator
Shankar Subramaniam is a Professor of Bioengineering, Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Biology. He is currently Chair of the Department of Bioengineering, and Director of the UCSD Bioinformatics Graduate Program. He also has adjunct Professorships at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the San Diego Supercomputer Center.

Brian Saunders Project Coordinator and Bioinformatics Analyst
Brian Saunders has been in the bioinformatics field since 1997, with the San Diego Supercomputer Center since 1999, and with Signaling Gateway project since its inception in 2001 as part of the Alliance for Cellular Signaling. Brian specializes in biological sequence analysis, bioinformatic database design, and the inclusion of public bioinformatic resources. He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Ashok Reddy Dinasarapu Application Programmer
Ashok Reddy Dinasarapu has been in the bioinformatics field since 2003 and a postdoctoral fellow with the UCSD Bioengineering Department since 2008. He has both M.S and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (Bioinformatics specialization in Ph.D) from University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad, India, and a M.S. in Biotechnology from Anna University, Chennai, India.

Kenan Azam Application Programmer and Systems Analyst
Over the last 5 years Kenan has been involved with information technology and its applications in bioinformatics. Before joining the Signaling Gateway, he was a Research Associate at Xenbase, a Xenopus genomic resource based at the University of Calgary. His domain knowledge spans bioinformatics, machine learning, web applications, eCommerce and system administration.

Anjana Chandrasekhar Editor
Anjana Chandrasekhar has been working in the field of signaling proteins since 2003 and completed her PhD from the Department of Biochemistry, UT Health Science center, San Antonio in 2007. She has experience in writing manuscripts and grants and is currently a postdoctoral fellow with the UCSD Bioengineering Department since 2011.

Editorial Board Members

We are greatly appreciative of our outstanding team of editorial board members. Our editorial board members provide their expertise and insight in identifying authors for new Molecule Pages within their research field, suggest potential reviewers for Molecule Pages and provide guidance on the individual Molecule Pages assigned to them.
